Fall is the season our family looks forward to all year. Cool mornings, a hayride out to the pumpkin patch, cider donuts that are still warm, and that stretch of late October when every road out of Tullahoma turns gold.

The problem every September is the same: which farms are actually open, what do they cost this year, and is it worth the drive? So I pulled it all together in one place: every farm, orchard and festival within about an hour of us, closest first, with prices and hours as they're posted for 2026. If you only make it to one, I'll tell you which one. If you're up for a Saturday road trip, I've got those too.

I'll keep this updated all season. If a farm changes its hours or you find a gem I missed, message me and I'll add it.

"Tennessee's largest corn maze": 18 acres split into three mazes off one entrance, on a fourth-generation dairy with an ice-cream shop. This is a maze-and-ice-cream trip, not a full pumpkin-patch day, and that's exactly why we like it.

Apple Orchards

worth the tank of gas

Middle Tennessee is pumpkin country, not apple country. The good orchards sit on the mountain edges to our south and east. These are the four worth the tank of gas, closest first.

Free & Nearly Free Fall

Leaf-peeping drives

Middle Tennessee peaks late: mid-to-late October on the plateau edge (Sewanee, Monteagle, Tims Ford), then the last week of October into the first week of November down here in the valley. WSMV's forecast says Nashville peaks around November 1; another model says November 10. Either way, don't go looking for color on October 10.

  • Tims Ford State Park loop and the dam overlook
  • Hwy 41A up to Sewanee, then the Perimeter Trail overlooks and Sewanee Natural Bridge
  • Fall Creek Falls if you want a whole day

Markets

The Tullahoma Food Fair at Trinity Lutheran (705 Wilson Ave) keeps going Wednesdays 6–noon through October: pumpkins, mums, apples.

food fair

Old Stone Fort State Park

In Manchester. The falls trail is short, flat, and glorious under yellow leaves.

Backyard harvest

Roast the seeds from the pumpkin you carved (well, decorated), press the prettiest leaves in wax paper, make a gratitude tree on the fridge and add a leaf every night at supper through Thanksgiving.

Know Before You Go

  1. 1Weekdays win. Every big farm is a different place on a Tuesday. If your kids are homeschooled or you can swing a half-day, do it.
  2. 2Cards in the field, cash in the store. Grandaddy's is cards-only at the pumpkin patch; Wooden's is cash. Carry both.
  3. 3Buy online. Grandaddy's, Lyon, Lucky Ladd and Cedarwood all discount or cap online tickets; Lucky Ladd is timed-entry and can sell out.
  4. 4Bring a wagon. For the pumpkins and for the four-year-old at 3 p.m.
  5. 5Check the farm's page the morning you go. Rain closes fields even when the farm is "open."
  6. 6Fall break Saturdays are the busiest of the season everywhere.
  7. 7Sunset is early. By late October it's dark before 6:30; evening hayrides at Grandaddy's (6:30, 7, 7:30 Fri & Sat) are the coziest thing on this list.
  8. 8Need fall break covered? Bean Acres is running a Fall Farm Camp Mon–Fri Oct 5–9, 9–4, pick any days, ages 5–10, $65 per child per day: farm animals, pumpkin decorating, archery, crafts, a blow-up slide. Tullahoma Talk · register
